Silver Park Small Shelter Project, Missoula, Sept. 22-26
We will host a workshop to build one of the three winning timber and log designs in the Silver Park Design Competition. The Bonin design, shown below, will give participants an excellent opportunity for honing their skills in compound joinery. This shelter, plus the other two winning designs that are being cut at local shops, will be raised in their eventual home in Silver Park, which is adjacent to Osprey Stadium where the workshop will be held. There is no fee but you do need to register.

In celebration of HRH the Prince of Wales's 60th birthday in November,
there will be a contest for a measured drawing of a Georgian building (any
building completed in the period 1660-1840, whether in Britain or elsewhere).
The goals of the competition, which is open to British, Commonwealth and U.S.
citizens under 40, is to promote and reward excellence in measured
architectural drawing and to encourage close study and understanding of
Georgian buildings. First prize is £1000, second prize is £750 and third prize is £500. Deadline: Friday, Sept. 19. Full details are available here: www.georgiangroup.org.uk.
Tedd Benson, dean of the timber framing industry, gave this year's commencement address at Maine's Unity College (an environmental college). His topic: "Tedd's Rules," which include "Be happy. Buck convention. Save your world." Read his address here.
